Movie Review – TWENTY 스물《疯狂20》

TWENTY 스물

“I think your 20’s are the hardest part of life. I mean, everyone goes on about how hard it is to be a teenager, but actually I think it’s tougher to be in your 20’s because you’re expected to be a grownup and expected to earn your own living and be successful and I think you feel like a kid still.” – Nigel Cole

‘Twenty’ is a coming-of-age Korean comedy following the lives of three 20 year-old buddies with distinct personas facing different issues in life. There’s pretty raunchy humor and adult situations as truthful as it gets. Beyond the hilarity, the movie strikes a note at a time when we start wondering what we are going to do with the rest of our lives, or the burden of supporting a family suddenly falls upon our shoulders when we turn twenty. It’s a fun time to be in, when you have the luxury of making mistakes. Cos’ you have three-quarters of your life to make it right. We see how the three main characters in the movie find their ‘true calling’ as they wander through their lives at twenty.

TWENTY 스물 Korean heartthrob Kim Woo-Bin plays Chi-ho, a super-charming slacker who pursues a life of doing nothing after high school.

TWENTY 스물

His simple life that consists of breathing and seducing women (he loves boobies!) takes a turn after finally being dumped by a girl and realizing that he has a new goal in life. He is the most hilarious/ridiculous of the three, yet looks really suave most of the time. TWENTY 스물 Kang Ha-neul is by far the hottest rising star in the current Korean film scene. He plays Gyeong-jae, a boy next door character who lacks a sense of self-confidence but he turns into something completely different when he is drunk. His ultimate goal is to get a job in a global corporation until he meets an attractive senior whom he starts to follow around like a smitten puppy.

TWENTY 스물

Kang reveals his comedic talent as he gets into pretty embarrassing situations in the movie, and his character does feel close to heart like a twenty year-old you would have known.

TWENTY 스물 Popular Kpop group 2PM’s Lee Jun-ho plays Dong-woo, the most mature of the three friends who is forced to grow up quickly due to difficult family circumstances. Juggling between aspiration and reality, he works several different jobs to support his family after his father goes bankrupt. He dreams of becoming a cartoonist, which he struggles hard to give up to become a salaryman for the sake of his family.

TWENTY 스물 His budding romance with the bubbly So-hee (Lee Yu-bi), Gyeong-jae’s younger sister, is the sweetest of the three characters. So-hee is also my favourite female character in the movie. She is super funny and not afraid to relentlessly pursue Dong-woo.

TWENTY 스물 Gyeong-jae cries his heart out after being ‘jilted’ by his puppy love. How many of you can relate to that feeling?

TWENTY 스물 The boys stick by each other even when faced with adversity, in this case, putting up a hilarious slow-mo fight with the neighbourhood gangsters.

TWENTY 스물 Amidst shifting priorities, these besties learn important lessons in love and life as they muddle through their twenties. It’s an enjoyable and relatable movie to watch with friends. Apart from the eye candy casting, the down-to-earth and heartfelt stories had me thinking (hard) at what I did when I was twenty. And a smile tugged at my lips :) TWENTY 스물 opens in Singapore exclusively at Golden Village Plaza Singapura, GV Vivocity, GV Tampines and GV Yishun on 25th June.

What is Super Junior’s Choi Si-won looking at?

Super Junior 6 Singapore Concert
Hmmm…I wonder what cheeky Si-Won is looking at lol :D Caught Super Junior’s Super Show 6 during the May Day holiday and it was much fun. The boys delivered 3.5 hours of solid entertainment during their 6th world tour concert, delivering their signature dance numbers, ballads, hilarious banter (Tonight I go to your room”) as well as a Frozen Elsa costume parade much to the delight of the mainly female audience.

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertHeechul showed off his drumming skills during the start of the show – he looked so suave and hearts fluttered together with his wavy hair.

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertOh, Donghae you look so cool!

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertThe boys’ impersonation of Elsa from Disney’s hit animation Frozen left the audience in stitches. There’s Eunhyuk as “Elsa Jackson”, Kyuhyun as “Big Elsa” (check out his humongous blonde wig!) and Heechul was SO convincing as Princess Anna I thought he was a girl! :p

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertI think the boys had fun during their wacky parade which left me wondering “What just happened?!?” Kudos for being so sporty.

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertLeetuk was a muscular “ElSapphire Blue” trying to hold his/her boobies in place.

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertOh Donghae, you make a plain T-shirt and jeans look like a million bucks :)

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertSi-won the luminous (literally!) poster boy of the group

Super Junior 6 Singapore ConcertEven their serious look is so cute heh

Look of the Day – Roarrr!

Look of the Day - Roarrr!

It was a day of seeing my fave kpop stars at the YG Family Galaxy World Tour, so I had to come in something swagalicious to support my most beloved of them all. No guesses who that would be ;) I must admit it took a bit of courage stepping out of the house, but once out I didn’t feel anything much except for some muffled whispers “tiger head, tiger head!” Yes it is, and it’s staring back at you. :)

I have 2NE1’s autograph!

2NE1 Autograph

OMG I can’t believe it – I have 2NE1‘s autograph!
It was a total fluke – I was leaving after their All or Nothing World Tour Singapore concert when my friend asked to go to the souvenir tent to take a look. I decided to buy a CD as a momento, and learnt that some of them came with autographs. It was random so you could not choose. So you can imagine my very pleasant surprise when I saw the scribbles on the CD cover – I couldn’t believe my luck! OMG OMG I love this power girl group, woohoo! Uber estactic :D

LeeSsang 1st Asia Showcase

LeeSsang - 1st Asia ShowcaseI recently caught hip hop duo Leessang’s first Asia showcase at Shanghai Dolly in Clarke Quay with oppa Darren. While both members are more recognized for their participation in Korean variety programs Infinite Challenge (Gill) and the wildly popular Running Man (Gary), Leessang has produced 8 albums with at least one #1 hit in each.

Gary & Gill!

Kang Hee-gun or more affectionately know as Gary in SBS’s Running Man. He is also the group’s rapper and writes the lyrics for their songs.

LeeSsang - 1st Asia Showcase

Judging from the music showcase, he’s quite the ladies’ man with his honeyed-tongue too ;)

Even without saccharine looks nor addictive dance moves, LeeSsang does know how to work up a crowd

She must be the happiest fan that day
Gary gamely played “Pepero” with this lucky fan, a game where both bite on a cookie stick to see how long before they stop (for modesty’s sake). Gill naughtily pushed Gary’s head forward, much to the fan’s delight. Even the emcee was captivated.

LeeSsang - 1st Asia Showcase

17 years of friendship and showmanship honed from participation in variety programs showed in their comfortable interaction with each other – and crazy antics. Towards the end of the music showcase, they gave each other a splashing good time – by downing each other with bottles of water.

LeeSsang - 1st Asia Showcase

I was quite sure the fans thoroughly enjoyed the entertaining, albeit short, music showcase. Cos’ they refused to leave after the showcase has ended, not even when the host repeatedly announced that there were no more encores. They only left after Gary and Gill personally came out to thank them for their support. I have never seen anything like this LOL. I’m sure they will be looking forward to Gary coming back next Feb to promote his new album.
