Leadenhall Market is a beautiful covered market in the City of London. Located to the south of Leadenhall Street between Gracechurch Street and Lime Street, it is one of the oldest markets in London dating back to the 14th century. Originally a meat, game and poultry market, it stands on what was the centre of Roman London.

Leadenhall Market was used to represent the area of London near The Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley in the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I was really excited to visit Harry Potter’s filming studio (upcoming blog post) and also see the original location!

There are stalls selling flowers, cheese, meat as well as retail shops, pubs and restaurants in the market building. Its ornate roof structure, maroon and cream Victorian facade and cobbled floors make it a tourist attraction and ideal filming location.

The blue shop is where The Leaky Cauldron was based on…guess what shop it is in reality?

Girls’ Generation: Part of the Kpop galore at SMTOWN Live World Tour III

I finally succumbed to the Korean wave fever this year, and have been happily occupied with K-drama (Caution: they’re absolutely addictive – don’t start, you’ll find it hard to stop!) and Kpop such as Big Bang and 2NE1. I was hence naturally happy when SM Town announced Singapore as one of the stops for its 2012 World Tour – it means I can see all the popular Kpop acts at one go, yay.

24,999 others joined me at the concert at The Float @ Marina Bay, with some die-hard fans queuing one week in advance to secure the best places at the mosh pit. The four-hour long concert saw S.M. Entertainment’s artistes f(x), Kangta, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girl’s Generation, SHINee, BoA and EXO belting out a record 50 songs. Even the rain and cranky, humid weather couldn’t fizz out the excitement of the fans, and the massive production included a huge multi-tiered stage, water effects, pyrotechnics and fireworks. I must say this was the most value-for-money concert ever, given the number of artistes, stage production, duration and the effort the artistes put into performing(I felt tired just watching them). It was also the first ever concert that I persevered to sit through the rain, which was so heavy at a point it felt like sitting under a waterfall. Definitely a concert I will remember!

I couldn’t think of anyone else who would bring us more Yuletide joy (especially the men) than angels – Victoria’s Secret Angels, to be exact. I passed by the London flagship store along Bond Street and was treated to a visual eye candy display from their 2012 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Here’s wishing the men’s spouses and girlfriends be as sexy as a Victoria’s Secret angel and bring you lots of joy to last the whole year, and ladies be as curvaceous and voluptuous to fit into a Victoria’s Secret model’s costume (even the mannequin couldn’t quite fill the cups up, glurp)! Ho Ho Ho, what a great Christmas! :)

2NE1 New Evolution Global Tour – Delicious!

I was pretty excited to catch my favourite Kpop group 2NE1 in concert earlier this month – these girls can sing, dance and they’ve got style. Made up of four members CL, DARA, BOM and MINZY, 2NE1 debuted onto the Kpop music scene in 2009 with their hit single “Fire”. Their songs reflect the members’ independence and confidence as women, with songs like “I Don’t Care” and “Go Away”. Their cutting-edge music and unique fashion style led to collaborations with artists such will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas to fashion designer Jeremy Scott who designed their costumes for their first global tour.

It was pretty cool to finally see my fave Kpop group ‘live’, but I was a bit disappointed with the stage set-up which was much smaller and less impressive than their fellow YG boy band Big Bang whom I caught earlier this year. The sound system left much to be desired as well. Costume-wise, I would have preferred a more balanced mix of classy and sporty outfits. At times, it looked more like a wacky Adidas fashion show. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed seeing the girls perform.

Winter Wanderland

Been hibernating for a while on the blog as I have been wandering in Europe on my winter holidays…it was a last-minute decision to visit my friends who were showing at Fête des Lumieres the world’s oldest & grandest light festival in Lyon (post coming up, lots of awesome photos), and since I would be making my way around half the globe to get there, I might as well explore more places. It has been a truly enriching experience, meeting so many people and learning much more about their cultures. It’s also freezing here – I’ve seen the pond frozen over. I wore all the clothes I brought in two days, and am still freezing my ass off LOL. Nonetheless, am having a fabulous time and more on my adventures real soon…till then, have a loving Christmas and fantabulous New Year!
