My chum D recently called me a ‘bad influence’ of all things luminous, so this is my response to him. This is for you D, …try beating this ‘walking highlight’ look *GRIN*
If there was one predominant trend saturating this spring/summer 2012, it has to be eye-searing neon colours from bright yellows, pinks to greens. Designers from Rodarte, Jason Wu, Vera Wang to Brian Atwood have sent neon down the runway in full force and we are spotting gals glowing down the street in high street brand versions (the roads have never felt so bright & safe LOL!). My neon orange skirt sporting a fab translucent white mesh overlay recently arrived, and I decided to go peachy (peachy, not bitchy k ;P) for the day.
You know neon is really big when OPI is launching its first neon nail lacquer mini pack aptly named “Outrageous Neons” featuring four limited edition colors: Ridiculously Yellow, Formidably Orange, Riotously Pink, and Seriously Purple. This limited edition mini pack promotion will be available beginning July 2012, and I may be tempted to get a pack of those insanely bright hues.
People may think neons are only reserved for those 80s aerobics leotards or construction site workers, but if you pair them appropriately, they are actually quite wearable and something eye-catching (literally!) to look at. For some inspiration, see this article which teaches you how to wear neon for this season without being called a walking highlighter.
Here are some of my spring/summer’s neon picks which won’t break the bank. Since it’s more likely a seasonal trend, I would recommend more affordable buys such as H&M, Topshop, Zara, ASOS, Forever 21, etc. I would rather splurge on timeless classics. Well, that’s me :)
