Photography – Flight of Fancy

NDP Flypast

Flypast at National Day Parade 2013 rehearsal. It’s a moment which never fails to make me feel patriotic.

Fighter Planes at NDP

It’s always super exciting to await the arrival of the fighter planes with their fancy formations – the roaring sounds perk you up with anticipation, and you have just that 3 seconds to capture them on screen. Pretty lucky to get this, with one single shot.

Photography – I see fireworks!

Fireworks 2013

After months of procrastination and deliberation, I finally bought my very first DSLR Nikon D7100 (which I have lovingly named Nikky). And immediately went to shoot fireworks! Not a very smart move, since fireworks photography is one of the more challenging subjects to shoot. Since it’s not everyday that you get fireworks to shoot, I threw caution to the wind and what the heck – just try and see what I get! I think it must be beginner’s luck – I got so many nice shots, I was over the moon! And I am glad to have really, really good mentors :)

Fireworks

I learnt how to do image overlay so that I can get a nice, blue sky to go with the fireworks (instead of the usual black sky), and only Nikon cameras have that function. You can read more about it here. It’s extremely easy to use, and fun! Now you can create a photo that is truly your own without and photo editing software.

I can’t wait to bring Nikky out for more adventures…he’s gonna go everywhere with me, eat with me, sleep with me, travel with me…
The only thing is that he is a tad chunky and heavy, but I can’t make him go on a diet to weigh lesser lol. This is definitely the beginning of a lifelong passion and awesome friendship with awesome photographers, and I can’t wait to click away!

Look of the Day – Loving SG

Look of the Day - Loving SG

Look of the Day – Loving SG
9 August was Singapore’s 47th National Day, and I was inspired by the national flag’s red-and-white colours and five stars. This was also the FIRST time I had an opportunity to step onto the National Day stage at The Float @ Marina Bay. Although there were no performers on that day, the feeling of stepping on that stage was odd – I felt strangely choked with emotion. Happy birthday Singapore.

Of all the perfect shots I took, I chose this imperfect one to use. Why? Cos’ I have a great friend monkeying in the background. That’s what friends are for – sharing the good times, the bad times, and the cam-whoring times! Memories are made of these.Lego bow tieThe Little Dröm Store (you can buy extra parts to match your own colours) The bow tie was inspired by National Day’s Loving SG Lego project. Everyone loved my bowtie! I am thinking of getting some Lego flowers to stick on the bowtie now…haha

Me kissing Furball, the Singapore Flyer’s mascot at NDP’s media event. I think the person inside must have been terrified of this crazy person, cos’ his face is actually at the mascot’s mouth. Meaning all he saw of me were my fat lips! Hahaha…

Building a LovingSG

Look of the Day - Loving SG

This was the inspiration for my Lego bowtie – a Lego replica of the National Day Parade venue which took 200,000 Lego bricks, 25,000 figurines and over 500 volunteers to complete. The “Building a LovingSG” structure spans an area of 12 by 9 metres, about the size of a volleyball court. This project is especially meaning as it is a fund-raising effort for the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund whose mission is to reach out to every child in need and provide them with the resources to do well in school – and beyond. For every $5, you get to customise 2 Lego mini figures. One of the mini figures will be placed on the replica platform and the other to be taken home as a memento. I see people have been pretty creative, some even bringing their own decorations for their figurines…

Compare the Lego replica on the left to the real deal on the right – pretty realistic huh?

Whoa – even Singapore’s national icon ‘took leave’ from spewing water at Marina Bay to go watch the National Day Parade!

Hey bro – wrong sign! This is the National Day Parade in Singapore, not Olympics in London!

It looked so fun my handphone (I have named her Appy – cos’ it sounds like ‘happy’) decided to join in the Parade LOL

I loved this meaningful project, and hope they will bring it back next year! Maybe I will decorate my figurine with a big puffy skirt, swarovski crystals and 5-inch platforms – I will watch the Parade in style too! haha..
